I got fired up in 2015 during the Presidential Primaries, changed my voter registration from NPA to Democrat and ended up joining the Collier County Democratic Executive Committee in 2016. Within 7 months I was elected State Committeewoman; 3 months later I was appointed a Vice Chair of the state party. I had formed a Coastal Coalition of 8 counties to bring attention, resources and training to SWFL. I hired a political consultant to advise potential candidates, and was encouraging people to run for office. I didn’t know one of the persons I was looking for would be me!
I’m Sara McFadden, former Administrator and Small Business Owner, current Grassroots Activist and Social Justice Advocate. I qualified by petition 5 weeks early to be on the ballot and was an official candidate for Florida State Representative, House District 106, in November 2018 with a platform that focused on Education, our Environment, Healthcare and Public Safety.
Although my bid was not successful, I have not forgotten the reasons I decided to run for office. We’ve got our eyes on our elected officials to encourage them to live up to their campaign promises and to hold them accountable if they don’t – let’s see what happens!
