Bio – Sara McFadden, Candidate
FL State Representative / House District 106
A Former Administrator/Small Business Owner, Sara McFadden will make sure your voice is heard. “If we want to change Tallahassee, we have to change who we send.”
A resident of Naples, Ms. McFadden was born in New Jersey, raised her family in CT and retired to Collier County. She comes from a hard-working family of homemakers, blue collar workers, teachers, police officers and nurses — ready volunteers for civic organizations and serving as elected officials on school boards and City Councils. A scholarship recipient, she worked her way through school, graduating with honors from Georgian Court University.
Ms. McFadden was employed at the NJ Disability Insurance Service where she met her future husband Michael. Eventually she became Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrative Manager for AIG/ American International Group based in Philadelphia. Later, as a stay-at-home mom raising two daughters in CT, she followed family tradition by taking volunteer and leadership roles in her neighborhood, church, senior center and in scouting. Those community activities continued when she went back to school at F.I.T./ Fashion Institute of Technology and established an interior design firm as owner and principal designer.
Retiring to Florida in 2011 she initially was involved in her neighborhood and the fire commission changes, renovating her home on Isles of Capri, and serving as a Lieutenant in the Marco Island Power Squadron as Membership Chair.
In 2015, before the Presidential Primary, Ms McFadden was an NPA/ No-Party-Affiliation. She became a grassroots activist, an advocate for social and environmental justice, and joined the Naples League of Women Voters and local Naples, as well as national, environmental groups. She joined the Collier County DEC/Democratic Executive Committee, serving on the Credentials Committee; attended the National Platform Meeting, traveled to Philadelphia for the National Convention; and was elected as State Committeewoman in 2016.
Ms. McFadden put Naples on the map in January 2017 when she brought all five candidates for State Chair of the Florida Democratic Party together, for the first time in the State, in a Candidate Forum she moderated. She founded the eight-county Coastal Coalition to bring attention, resources and political training to SWFL; and organized a healthcare rally in February attended by 500+ who petitioned our area Congressmen. In March, Ms. McFadden was appointed as a Vice Chair of the Florida Democratic Party.
“The Coalition Candidate,” Sara is working hard to bring people together for the common good and to restore a civil, collaborative and inclusive government.
‘We need to reach beyond parties and identity politics, find what commonalities unite us, and take back Tallahassee.”
